SSA website's underlying framework upgraded from DNN Version 5.1.1 to 5.1.2

Just a couple days after we upgraded to 5.1.1 DNN has release 5.1.2, we have decided to take the plung and upgrade the underlying DNN framework of the SSA website to DNN Version 5.1.2.

This version of DNN is a stabilization release and focused exclusively on fixing outstanding bugs which did not make the cutoff for DNN 5.1.1 or which were discovered after 5.1.1 was released. For a detailed listing of the changes please click here

Having upgraded to the lastest version of DNN 5.1.2 we will be able to upgrade the modules used on this website. The following Modules have been upgraded yesterday

Modules

Forum Module from Version 3.2.9 to 4.5.3.

SSA website's underlying framework upgraded from DNN Version 4.5.3 to 5.1.1

The SSA website utilises DotNetNuke (DNN) which is an open-source Web Application Framework ideal for creating and deploying projects such as commercial websites, corporate intranets and extranets, online publishing portals, and custom vertical applications.

Yesterday the underlying DNN framework of the SSA website was upgraded from DNN Version 4.5.3 to 5.1.1. This version of DNN is a stabilization release and focused exclusively on fixing outstanding bugs which did not make the cutoff for DotNetNuke 5.1 or which were discovered after 5.1 was released. For a detailed listing of the changes please click here

In addition to the above there all users who have registered with the website and have been waiting approval have now been given the default permissions to access various parts of the website.

Having upgraded the underlying framework it will now enable us to upgrade the modules used on this website. The following Modules have been upgraded today

Modules

Blog Module from Version 3.1.2 to 3.5.1.

Search optimisation improvements to the homepage page

I have been doing a bit of research in to search optimization and how we can get the SSA website ranking in Google to increase so that we draw more traffic to our website. I have made a few changes to the text on the home page which describes the purpose of the SSA website. Modifications made include bolding of text and creating links to various parts of this website.

More later on search optimisation

My First SSA Website Blog

It’s been about two weeks since the SSA website was launched http://www.SydneySindhiAssociation.org, starting with just the layout and a bunch of images the website has slowly evolved and most of the pages are now populated with content. In the weeks and months to come I plan on working on more content and introduce new functions and features which will benefit our community.

I am hoping that the website will be a popular place for the members of SSA where they will get up-to-date information on various events and find out what’s happening in our community. The website is designed to serve the SSA members and offers services only accessible by them once a SSA member registers with this website, the services the SSA website offers include:

SSA Forum – A place to share your thoughts and opinions.

SSA Blogs – Each of the Committee members will have a blog and will be encouraged to regularly blog on the website to share what’s in plan for the SSA members. You can contribute your ideas by submitting your comments in response to the blog.

SSA Members Directory – A list which contains the name, address and contact details of each SSA member. The member’s directory is generated from the profiles of those SSA members who have registered on the SSA website. So spread the word and encourage others to register and keep your details up-to-date.

SSA Members Mapped – Ever had to pull out the street directory to find a SSA member’s house? Well this part of the website uses Google Mapping Technology which allows you to visually locate where a SSA member lives. There are plans to enhance this feature by introducing “Get Directions” from your house to another SSA member’s house.

SSA Photo Gallery – This section of the website has a collection of Photo Albums which have photos taken from various SSA Functions.

SSA Newsletters – A listing of the SSA Newsletters are available to be downloaded by SSA Members.

SSA Calendar – This calendar is marked with the important events which include SSA functions and activities. SSA members can enrol themselves in these functions and activities so that they can be reminded via email and the SSA Committee Members can use the
enrolled count for catering purposes.

Announcements – Regular announcements are posted in this section which are relevant to our community.
The SSA website has much more then what I have listed above so take your time explore the website, visit regularly and should you have any comments or feedback please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I plan on introducing the functionality of the website via a series of blogs “Introduction to SSA Website” so visit the website again and check out my blog.

Hope to see you online!!!!
